Things To Do in the Texas Hill Country
Wimberley is blessed with a location on the banks of Cypress Creek and the Blanco River surrounded by the Texas Hill Country. As a result, there are great outdoor activities nearby.
Shopping
Wimberley is full of unique shops that offer traditional and not-so-traditional art and wares. Although the primary shopping areas are clustered around the "Square" and "Olde Towne Plaza", there are also shops sprinkled throughout other areas. The first Saturday of each month, March through December, Market Days draws visitors from around the state.
Theatre
Many rural towns had outdoor movie theatres years ago. Wimberley still has one. The Corral Theatre features first run movies every Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from Memorial Day through Labor Day. You can even bring your own chair. Call 847-2513 for shows and times. If your taste runs to live theatre, try the EmilyAnn Theatre or Wimberley Players for year round theatrical events.
Site-Seeing
For those who just like to walk and see the sites, Wimberley is full of beautiful views and rich history. A pause at the bridge over Cypress Creek or, for the more vigorous, a walk up the steps to the top of Old Baldy (see map) are certainly worth the trip
Additional Activities
Take a step back in time to an 1880's Pioneer Town at the 7A Ranch Resort with plenty of activities for the whole family! Wimberley also offers many unique art galleries, including Wimberley Glass Works, with entertaining glass blowing demonstrations seven day a week. Enjoy an afternoon of golf at the 18-Hole Quicksand at Woodcreek Golf Course or a round of disc golf at Circle R Ranch. Take a leisurely stroll through a working vineyard and taste some fabulous Texas Hill Country wines at Driftwood Vineyards. Tour a working olive orchard that reminds one of Tuscany, then taste fresh olive oil and wines in the tasting room at Bella Vista Ranch. Get your family photographs taken while cutting your own lavender at the Rough Creek Lavender Fields. Or for the more adventurous, many of the resort/ranch facilities in the Chamber Members and Lodging listings offer tours and activities throughout the beautiful Wimberley Valley.
Camping - Swimming - Hiking
The Village of Wimberley offers swimming every day at the historic Blue Hole on Cypress Creek. Many of the resorts and camps around town have Blanco River access, pools and hiking trails. Cypress Falls Swimming Hole in Woodcreek is a favorite swimming destination for locals and visitors to the Wimberley area. The Lodge at Cypress Falls offers lodging at a reasonable rate. See Lodging on the menus for contact information. For more information on the Blue Hole, Cypress Falls and river access in and around Wimberley check at the Visitor Center or call (512) 847-2201.
