Literacy Volunteers of Wimberley, Inc.
The Literacy Volunteers of Wimberley has been promoting adult literacy since the mid-1980's. Our tutors work to teach English as a second language, assist those working toward earning their GED and teach Basic Literacy to adult learners. In addition, tutors work with students at the Katherine Anne Porter School to improve their performance and retention of math, language and science skills. All services and materials are provided to learners at no cost.
English as a Second Language (ESOL) tutoring takes place each Thursday evening (7:00 p.m.) at the Wimberley Village Library. Tutors recieve free instruction and on-the-job-training from experienced tutors. If you are intersted in becoming a tutor, come by the library one Thursday evening and observe our program.
Other ways to get involved with our organization include:
- Becoming a board member
- Volunteering at the Village Store and designating your hours to LVW.
- Helping us participate in community events -- annual Scarecrow Contest, the Hill Country Trail of Lights at Emilyann Theatre and the July 4th parade and jubilee.
