The Katherine Anne Porter School faculty and staff work to foster an appreciation for learning. It is our goal to nurture individual interests and work together to enhance community responsibility among our students.
In small classes, using an integrated and practical approach, students join together in a learning community in an accredited high school.
Founded in 1998 by Dr. Yana Bland and many others, the Katherine Anne Porter School celebrates diversity and creativity in a vibrant community. A dedicated team of teachers provides rigor and relevance in instruction and support and advocacy in relationships. Reading comprehension, media literacy, writing skills, creative thinking and mathematical calculation are keynotes of the KAPS learning community.
Four foundations of success are at the core of the KAPS’ philosophy:
RESPECT for oneself, respect for all human beings and respect for the environment;
PARTICIPATION in all classes with one hundred per cent focus, and participation in the positive development of the KAPS community;
ACADEMIC PRIORITIES put learning first, understanding leads to positive action;
COMMUNITY SERVICE is when we all give back to the community.
